St. Mary's, Addington |
At the heart of Addington
The Anglican Church of St Mary the Virgin has been an integral part of the Addington community since 1867. It graces the tree-filled space in the centre of Church Square, Addington, Christchurch. For more information about us, click here.
St Mary's has come through the earthquakes with almost no damage and services are running as usual.
Our thoughts and hearts are with people who have lost so much in the last year - loved ones, homes and livelihoods - and for the other historic churches that have suffered so much more than us. If you would like someone to talk to, please feel welcome to give us a call or drop by on any Sunday.
Addington Fun Fair Sat 19 November 2011 11am - 4pm
Gap Filler presents the Addington fun fair, an event for the whole family. The day will include 30+ stalls, bouncy castle, pony rides, old fashioned games including sack races and egg and spoon races.
There will also be a bbq, devonshire tea and live music all day featuring local musicians and roaming performers including stilt walkers. A portion of the money raised will be given to Addington Action to aid house repairs and elderly people in the area who were uninsured after the earthquake.
Worship services
Sunday Eucharist: 10am every week
In our main Sunday morning services, music, prayer and the Eucharist connect people to God. These services combine the Anglo-Catholic tradition with New Zealand themes in song and liturgy.
Taizé evening service: 7pm 11 December 2011
Taize services are mostly on the 1st Sunday of the month. There'll be no service in January, and December's service this year is on the 2nd Sunday rather than the 1st.
In Taizé evening services, meditative songs, prayer and silence are a means of renewing both our inner life and our human solidarity. Only a handful of churches in Christchurch offer Taizé prayer, and St. Mary's peace-filled services attract people from all over the city. For more information about Taizé, click here.
Celtic evening service: 7pm 20 November 2011
Celtic services are mostly on the 3rd Sunday of the month. There'll be no service in December.
In Celtic evening services, we celebrate the God of the everyday, in the songs and poetic prayer of the Celtic tradition. These earth-based meditative services draw on the richness of contemporary Celtic religious life, especially the Iona Community of Scotland.
